Wooden Ships & Iron Men — changelog
======================================================================

v1.20.0 — 2026-09-25
A live Fire Control Board aggregates laid broadsides by enemy, showing total
batteries, rakes and expected effect while counting held loaded batteries
and flagging possible over-concentration of hull-directed fire.

v1.19.0 — 2026-09-25
Fire Signals apply editable squadron-wide target doctrines for best effect,
closest targets, raking fire, weakened enemies and holding first broadsides.
Batteries unable to comply retain their existing orders and are reported.

v1.18.0 — 2026-09-25
Gunnery Readiness audits every friendly battery before fire, intercepting
invalid orders and long-range first broadsides while advising on weak shots,
held fire, missed rakes, boarding commitments and severely reduced gun crews.

v1.17.0 — 2026-09-25
Fleet Readiness audits courses, endpoints and damage-control assignments
before movement, intercepting dangerous plans for review while retaining an
explicit captain's option to make sail despite the warning.

v1.16.0 — 2026-09-25
A squadron Signal Book applies legal group manoeuvre and sail commands while
preserving existing orders for ships unable to comply and reporting exactly
how many captains answered each signal.

v1.15.0 — 2026-09-25
A persistent Admiral's Service Record tracks completed actions, results,
best margin against scenario par, ships defeated and lost, and performance
by scenario while preventing reopened reports from counting twice.

v1.14.0 — 2026-09-25
Persistent Normal, Fast and Instant resolution modes control movement and
gunfire presentation without changing results. Reduced-motion preferences
automatically receive instant resolution with a single compressed report.

v1.13.0 — 2026-09-25
A Captain's After-Action Report combines score, scenario par, complete ship
returns, emergencies and the chronological journal, and downloads a detailed
plain-text record carrying the version and deterministic scenario seed.

v1.12.0 — 2026-09-25
Portable Battle Files export and import complete actions, including orders,
damage, expanded chart, random state and Undo Turn checkpoint. Imports are
fully validated before they may replace the current battle.

v1.11.0 — 2026-09-25
An Admiralty Briefing presents the historical situation, order of battle,
wind, scenario par, victory priorities and tactical advice derived from the
actual forces. It remains available from the header throughout the action.

v1.10.0 — 2026-09-25
A range-and-bearing ruler pins a measurement from the selected ship to any
chart hex. It reports range, compass and relative bearing, and estimated
sailing time, and remains registered correctly while the chart pans or zooms.

v1.9.0 — 2026-09-25
Fleet Orders drafts editable courses, sail plans, damage-control duties,
targets and ammunition for every active ship in the player's squadron.
Advice neither advances the turn nor consumes the battle's random sequence.

v1.8.0 — 2026-09-25
A persistent one-turn checkpoint is recorded before movement. Undo Turn
restores orders, positions, damage, wind, chart bounds and random state,
survives save and resume, and requires confirmation before rewinding play.

v1.7.0 — 2026-09-25
A live battle dashboard compares squadron strength, combat status, loaded
broadsides and emergencies, then measures current points against scenario
par to project the result before nightfall.

v1.6.0 — 2026-09-25
A navigator minimap shows the full expanding chart, ship sides, selected
ship, shoals and current viewport. Clicking or tapping it recenters the
main chart without disturbing the player's zoom level.

v1.5.0 — 2026-09-25
The chart expands automatically in twelve-hex bands whenever active ships
approach an edge. Expansion works north, south, east and west; camera bounds,
overlays, chart rendering and saved battles follow the larger sea room.

v1.4.0 — 2026-09-24
Captain's Aid suggests movement, damage-control assignments, fire orders
and ammunition for the selected ship while leaving the final decision with
the player. Ship records now assess the nearest threat and which batteries
bear. A full-screen control expands the chart for desktop play.

v1.3.0 — 2026-09-24
Damaged saves are rejected and cleared with a readable warning. A new
tactical overview exposes every ship's position, heading, condition and
nearest-enemy range to keyboard and screen-reader users. Dialogs now trap
focus, identify their title, make the background inert and return focus on
close. Regression tests cover saves and the accessibility contracts.

v1.2.1 — 2026-09-24
Rebuilt directly from version 1.1.1 with the new original cover embedded
at assets/cover.png. Gameplay and save format are unchanged.

v1.1.1 — 2026-09-23
A review pass. A battery stripped of hands now falls silent instead of
firing at four-tenths weight; the watch bill is trimmed when casualties
leave a ship unable to man it; Build a Battle refuses an empty side; the
rules sheet is generated from the engine and covers the 1.1.0 systems; the
sailing master's estimate is on from the first turn; the gunnery panel
writes its target out in full; the helm and the bill are fingertip-sized on
a telephone; the store plates keep their ships inside the border.
Saves written by 1.1.0 are read unchanged.

v1.1.0 — 2026-09-23
The watch bill: crews told off into gun crews, topmen, marines,
with parties sent to repairs, the pumps or the fire party each turn.
Leaks sprung by close-range hull hits, knotting and splicing aloft, long
guns and carronades, Lake Erie, Breaking the Line, Build a Battle, two
new rates, the raking-water overlay and the sailing master's estimate.
Save format 2; 1.0.0 saves are not readable.

v1.0.0 — 2026-09-22
First release. Six actions, ten ship classes, three grades of computer
captain, plotted simultaneous movement, simultaneous gunnery with the
gunnery return, grappling and boarding, fire and striking, saved game.
